Valentine’s Day 2012

Historically, I have been pretty opposed to celebrating Valentine’s Day.  I just hate the idea of a guy feeling obligated to be sweet/romantic/thoughtful because it’s the 14th of February, and girls sitting there expecting nice gestures/candy/flowers/gifts/etc.  It’s silly.  Why not just do those things on some random day of the year?  Wouldn’t that be way more meaningful and romantic?  Anyway, that’s why Andrew and I have never made a big deal out of Valentine’s Day.

I have to admit though that this year was a little different.  Not that any of my above thoughts have changed, but just because we got to view it through the eyes of the kids…which is WAY more fun than Hallmark’s version of the holiday.  We made cards, dressed in pink and red, met Andrew out for lunch, made a fancy dinner, ate on the “fancy” plates, and (the kids’ favorite) had chocolate dipped fruit for dessert.  It was actually a really fun day!  Let’s be honest, I can get behind any holiday that’s mostly about the food.  🙂

Butternut squash ravioli with brown butter sage sauce, bacon wrapped asparagus, and cheesy herb bubble bread!  Delicious!

Chocolate covered strawberries and pineapple…so easy and YUMMY!

It doesn’t look like it from these pictures, but the kids actually did manage to get some of the chocolate in their mouths.
