Duluth Fall Festival

This weekend we went to the Duluth Fall Festival.  It was a lot of fun: all the fried food you could ever want, craft booths, a parade, clowns, balloons, etc.  The parade ended up being the highlight of the day.

Audrey wasn’t really that into it at first.

Then she got a sucker and wasn’t into anything except the sucker.

09-2

Then she realized that people were actually throwing candy at her, and that’s when she decided parades were fun!

09-3

It was hilarious to watch her because every time she would bend down to pick up one piece of candy, she’d end up dropping two of the ones she was holding.  She could have been entertained for hours just picking up and dropping candy.

09-4

She finally just sat down to survey the goods.

Elise enjoyed the parade too, only it was more like the way I enjoy a good nap on a rainy day.

09-6

About 13 seconds into the ride home, Audrey was out!  (Note the beads wrapped around her leg…kids are so weird)

What a gift!

Yesterday was my 31st birthday, and it was a great day!  I received several calls and voicemails with people singing Happy Birthday, emails, cards, gifts, etc.  But I think Elise gave me the best gift of all…this gummy smile!

That precious kid decided to flash her very first smile at her Mom for her birthday.  How sweet is that?  It’s amazing how far a gummy little grin will go for a sleep deprived mama.

The Best Dad!

Audrey has the most fun and wonderful Dad (and I have the best hubby!).  If you haven’t seen the news in the last two weeks, then you might not know that it has rained a TON in Atlanta lately!  Flooding, roads and highways closed, school canceled, etc.  We had rain everyday for what felt like forever!  So after a week of not being able to go outside and play (which is now Audrey’s favorite thing to do), Andrew took her outside to play…in the rain.

I love watching these two together.  That have such a unique and playful relationship.  I’m so thankful for both of them, and love how they both make me laugh!

Breakfast in Bed

Last Saturday Andrew got up early and went and got us breakfast. We let Audrey get in bed with us and we all had breakfast in bed. It was fabulous! Audrey didn’t know what to think at first, but it didn’t take her long to decide that breakfast in bed was a fun thing.

Mini-Me

Andrew and I often joke about how we each have our “mini-me”.  Audrey looks a ton like Andrew (same ears, nose, mouth, and same hair color that he had as a kid), while Elise has more of my features and coloring.  Hence the fact that the girls don’t look a ton alike.

Well, today I was in the bank with the girls when a lady came up and asked me how old they were, commented on how much hair Elise has (I get that a lot) and then asked me if they had the same Dad!  Um, Yes they do, thanks for asking.  Seriously, who asks a stranger that question?

Everyone’s heard the quote, “Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes”.

Well, I like Jack Handey’s version better:  “Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes, that way when you criticize them, you’re a mile away and you have their shoes”.
